Guardianship is a court-appointed role designed to support individuals who are unable to make certain personal decisions independently. A JGG Guardian is appointed to assist with managing living arrangements, health needs and, when necessary, certain financial matters. A JGG guardian advocates for the individual’s best interests to maintain and enhance their quality of life when making decisions about:

Selecting and maintaining appropriate housing and living arrangements that support safety and stability

Approving medical treatment, professional services and contractual agreements in the individual’s best interest

Providing support for health care, social, educational and recreational needs while ensuring basic needs are met

Offering representative payee support to help protect Social Security income and maintain financial stability
